Now in its 16th year, the Ride for Sick Kids campaign for Ronald McDonald House like most events in 2020 had to do things a little differently. We can all agree though at the heart of this event is a cause that is vital to support so when Todd Bacon of Collaborative reached out for the McCloy Group to be involved it was a simple “yes” from Chairman, Jeff McCloy.
The 2020 campaign saw a group of dedicated riders pedalling over 500km’s throughout the Hunter Region to help raise vital funds to give families a “home away from home” so they can be near their sick or injured child in hospital. Since the first Ride for Sick Kids in 2005, cyclists have ridden nearly 10,000km’s to raise much-needed funds to help keep families together, raising vital funds to keep the Ronald McDonald House doors open to families when they need it most.
The fund raiser kicked off on September 1 and run through til 30 September 2020. This year the team at Collaborative Construction Solutions headed by Todd Bacon road an astounding 750km in the month of September which included completing the main Charity Ride of 530km over 5 days. The main ride was going to be from Grafton to Newcastle, but due to Covid restrictions this has now been changed and the riders will ride the same distance, 530kms, over 5 days in a series of day rides. They launch their #collabonate program (Collaborate + Donate = #collabonate) under which Collaborative pledged to match contributions Dollar for Dollar (up to a maximum of $20k!!!).
For such an amazing cause the McCloy Group also matched the $20,000 donated by Collaborative, together raising $63,000 for Ronald McDonald House! Well done to all involved in what was a huge effort to help sick kids and their families!
