This week, members of the McCloy Group team alongside Cheryl from Newy Paddlers paid a visit to Nova for Women and Children, a community group set up to help women and children who suffer from homelessness and domestic violence here in the Hunter. Together they donated $8520.00, the proceeds of the fundraising effort of Newy Paddlers who held their annual ‘Paddle For Good’ Fundraiser.

Paddle 4 Good, an event in its fourth year and run by Carrington-based and community-minded paddling club saw 40 people from various clubs in Newcastle take part in a race day, along with numerous organisers and supporters which specifically raised money for the great work done in our community by Nova and their facility, Trisha’s House. Growing year on year the club alongside the McCloy Group, Tilligerry RSL and Transitions Chiropractic were proud to have increased their donation by more than $2500 on the previous years efforts.

The Newcastle-based refuge was opened in 2017 as a response to the growing issue of women and children becoming homeless in the region. Trisha’s House, a core part of the Nova group, was named in memory of a woman who was killed by her ex-partner.

“Thank you so much to everyone involved and those that contributed in any way, this is an extremely generous donation that will be enable us to provide support for the women and families that we just could not have done alone” a Nova spokesperson stated.

Trisha House can offer crisis accommodation to seven single women and four women with children for up to 28 days.

It also has a two bedroom unit which Nova can use exclusively for women exiting a mental health facility for up to six months to help with the adjustment to life back in the community.
